12 Dimensions Reflection

Part 1:

In the intercultural course that I took in this semester I have learnt lots of thing about the 12 dimensions and how are they applied in our social life.
Growth dimension is all about how you invest in an organization, do you prefer investing in (people) to develop the business or rather investing in equipment (material) to move the track of the business faster.
Destiny dimension is about your future path, do you create your path (directive) or you prefer following an outside plan (directed).
Context dimension shown your way of living and dealing with others, whether (formal) by following rules and standards or (informal) where rules not a big concern as long as it’s meant sincerely.
Expression is the way tell or react to your feeling toward others, whether you (reveal) what’s inside you or keep it in (conceal) and prefer not to share it with any on.

Part 2:

Based on my CMI results and what the graph have showed me, in growth dimension,  I am a people oriented which tends to feel more comfortable with the idea of developing people so that they can in turn develop effective systems and procedures rather than purely looking at the development of systems. Comparing with my group, I’m with the majority who believe in investing in people rather than material and that will benefit me to share ideas and not having conflict with them.
Another dimension is Destiny, and my results shows that I’m totally directive oriented (which I agree) in which I love controlling my destiny at work environment where I always find a room to express my ideas and take part of decision making process. Comparing with my group, which the majority of them are directive oriented while only 10% are directed oriented. As a group, we all can communicate very smoothly without any problems, and to myself it will give me the advantage of ruling or leading a group wisely.
In context, it appear that in my environment, rules and protocols are not hindering the free development of key relationships. I’m a less formal in nature, not much different from the rest of the group which makes it easy for all of us to work freely without any stress or rules. Beside all that there are a decent number from the group who are adopting formal polarity which I have to pay attention and agree on the appropriate protocols.
Expression, I’m more conceal oriented than revealing which I see is true. Since I tend to be a private person and feeling uncomfortable when having to openly express my feeling to others. However there are some time when I feel it is necessary to express my emotion in a controlled way. Comparing me with the group, I’m in a level where the majority are, which gives the benefit to the group feeling comfortable while if I faced a more revealing person tend to adjust my style to avoid appearing too distant and detached.

Part 3:

No, I don’t think there will be any changes since I have been building my character by my own with whatever I see is suitable for me and for the special people who really means something in my life.

The only dimension I would like to change is expression, being concealing is making me feel lost in some situations because some people won’t understand or know what you feel toward an act or a word unless if you revealed your point of view.

Exercise #5 Outsourced-the movie study guide.

The film has shown the way of how culture is different from place to another. At the beginning, Todd was asked to go to India to reduce the MPI (Minutes per Incident) in order to get his promotion. The very first thing went wrong with him was at the airport when the guy who was supposed to pick him up didn’t write his name properly, which led him to take a taxi to the train station then the train to the place where he should go to. Nothing was organized in the train and he found no place to sit, however a kid gave him his seat and sat on his lap so they can share the seat till they arrive. Once he arrived, he wanted to have something to drink and he bought the iced drink which foreigners feels sick normally after having it but he didn’t know that. The reason behind Puro taking Todd to the boarding house is that the hotel is so lonely and he doesn’t want him be bored plus he wants to ta make sure that someone to take care of him. The first thing Aunti Ji asked Todd Are you married? do you have girl friend ? why they broke up?  These questions are personal.

The Amish community is a strict structure culture due to their strong believe in religion. They live a very (Exclusive connection) way by living a closed community in the middle of a very open community which is America. They don’t like to share their believes with the outside people (Conceal) in addition to not using any technology like mobile phones, cars, electricity and they live with a very basic life equipment. Their life and (decisions) must meet their believes in religion.

Exercise #2

Cultural Conflict presentation Outline - #2
Exercise #2

The Conflict is on Xinjiang region in People's Republic of China. And the involved parties are the Muslim Chinese who lives in the region and Chinese government. The conflict is mainly focusing on not allowing Muslim people from fasting at Ramadan which is one of the main aspects of their religion. And since this is part of the Islamic religion ritual it became a sensitive situation for them, especially that the government reason’s and justification was weak and not logical.

We think the cultural view on these conflicts is all about power and fear since the government uses its power to ban Muslims from fasting during Ramadan claiming that it will effect on employees health and their capability, without taking in consideration the Sacredness of the subject for the Muslims.

In our opinion the best solution to this problem is allowing Muslim’s to carry out and perform their Religious behaviors without any interruption, especially they didn't cause any harm of any kind to other local’s what so ever.

Exercise #1

Is bullfighting cultural acceptable? OR should we as traveler's to help make changes in traditions??

We cannot impose our culture as we are travelers to tell what is acceptable and what isn't, however, in their society it’s acceptable as it is part of their culture. For me killing bulls by claiming it is a tradition is a crime as
they are enjoying doing, watching and supporting such a thing.

Since it started too long ago, it’s very difficult to make changes to their culture and tradition in which we have no rights to interfere with their own believes.
